It was a journey.

I went to get Joey.

I Got Him.

Then we journeyed to Columbus to catch a random flick. The only thing playing when we got there, was this:

It was so long 2 hours and 45 min. and could have been wrapped up in like an hour and 50 min. which made the movie bad. Movies are so fucking drawn out these days when they don't need to be.

But to save the night we journeyed down the road to the O'Charleys. Oh happy. The rolls are so much fun.

It makes Joey Happy.

Then we went to Thomaston and the night was pretty boring after that.

Well...

This is what happened. I've been away, the last few days. On Wednesday Joey and I decided to have another installment of Drew and Joey's Day of Fun. So... we went to atlanta and played 36 holes at a place called by Pirate's Cove... I think. I have decided that i love to putt putt. i suck so bad. but i love to play.

JOE DUNN WORKING ON THE LAST HOLE. iT TOOK HIM LIKE A BUNCH OF STROKES.(see how close he is.)

THIS IS ME WITH THE PIRATE SHIP IN VIEW.

Then... we decided to go to the Mall of Georgia

At the mall of georgia, we wondered around. Joe got hustled into buying a virtual ping pong game and bought a new movie trivia game, that sucks. I don't know any of the answers, that's why it suck. So there. We wanted to watch a movie so we took in...

The Weather Man is sometimes hilarious and sometimes depressing, but overall i liked it. i give it 4/5 stars. So yeah. It had to be better than Lord of War, RIGHT?

SO then, somehow, we decided, why don't we go to Athens to visit Andrew. So... We did. We went and then crashed on his couches. Then we woke up the next morning and went to my grandparents house for a visit while Andrew was in class. That was fun. So then we went back. WE ate at WingNuts, formally Ba-Da Wings. Then wandered around downtown Athens. I think it looked something like this...

... But i don't know. We wondered all around in the freezing cold. We ended up in many different places including the apartment of some people i haven't seen since high school. It was a strange evening. Then we went to sleep.

We almost woke up at 7:30 to go to Atlanta, for a screening. I'm not going to say the name of the movie because if i said that we didn't go to a screening of RENT, people would be pissed, right? Oh, wait.

At about 11:00 this morning Joe and I got up and wandered outside to the car...

Yeah, it's no good. but i still had time to pose.

And 2 and half hours later we got home. Now i'm sitting, waiting on diguorno rip off pizza. It's gonna be good.

TOnight is Chicken Little and Dreamer at the Ritz.

Blah, Blah, Blah.

Fade to black:

Random-Comedy.

So it's been a few days since anything. So here's an update. Last week i went to the Atl. and stayed with Brian and hung out with Jenna. Brian was sick and he stayed in his room most of the time. I gave Jenna "Apple." We hung out with Amber and Stefanie both days i was there. Jenna made some awesome Lasagna the first night. The Jenna, Amber, and I went to Piedmont park. That was a fun time. I should've taken some pictures. But i didn't. After that we went and picked up Stefanie and went to the Tara to see The Aristocrats. It is quite literally the most disgusting movie ever. But it was SOOOO funny. There was a bizarre gas shortage while i was there and i was convinced i wasn't getting home. But it was cool. I look forward to going again soon.

The Ritz has shut down for a couple weeks. So i have ample free time. So there...

I had a big entry planned but i lost interest towards the end.

Dut took the pics above.

Fade to black:

Jenna is getting "Apple." I actually painted it for her but didn't tell her because i wasn't sure i was going to give it to her.

Sunday i went to Griffin and The 40 Year Old Virgin and The Skeleton Key. That was the second time for me on the Skeleton Key and it was almost as good as it was the first time. The 40 Year Old Virgin was silly and lots of fun. The ending was so random i almost wanted to pee myself. I do enjoy some good randomness.

Monday i sat around then went to work for an hour because no one is coming to see Batman Begins. Why, it's only been out for 2 months?

Tuesday i got all my hair cut off. It's too short most definitely. Then i went to Atlanta and visited Amber in her new apartment. It was a nice time after she stopped making me feel bad. I picked a bad day to go. But it turned out fun.

Yesterday i woke up 5:30 in the morning and went with my bosses to a theatre owners convention called SHOWSOUTH at Callaway Gardens. It was awkward, but it was an interesting experience. I got to see a ton movie trailers. I got see the Superman trailer before anyo of you. It doesn't look as bad as i anticipated. I also got see 9 minutes of CORPSE BRIDE. I know you're jealous. I also got a goodie bag. I got a Walk the Line T-shirt, A 40 Year Old Virgin T-shirt, A Chronicles of Narnia T-Shirt, SONY PICTURES t-shirt, and a Cry Wolf t-shirt. Then i later i went to work and apparently just missed Daniel and Fawne. That sucks! Then i came home and went to sleep at like 9:30.

In just a little while i have to go to the Ritz to start setting up fo the big day of Gary Claxton and the Just Us Band concert thing tonight. UGGGh. Yeah that's right.

I'm going to warm up some spaghetti.

Fade to black:

I was so disappointed. Bill Murray is brilliant, and so is Jeffrey Wright. Actually all the acting was great it was the movie it self. I was a shitty art film that doesn't explain anything. It's just a lot of shots of Bill Murray riding down the road. Very little substance. I read that it only took Jim Jarmusch 2 1/2 weeks to write the script, and it shows.
What do you think?

Stagnant Rock article:

THE INDIE HERO by Alan Wright

I am sitting on the swing-set in the backyard of the newest Indie Hero. Michael Lanette is a short lanky character with a shaved head, and is wearing thick women’s glasses. He smokes Camel Lights and offers me one. He has recently released his newest genius-ish, as he calls it, concept album. The title is The City of Makeshift Reveries and it promises to fill the void on everyone’s shelf between the last good Floyd album and the third album from The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

I ask Michael how he came to be where he was, to which he replied, “Where am I?”

The story of his rise to the middle, critical acclaim, and a large cult following is a very interesting one. It isn’t a story of the rich rock stars you see on Mtv. It isn’t. From the beginning to the end, you must remember that no on in the story became famous or made money. They stayed where they were, harboring their “genius,” or lack there of. The story started in a bar in Atlanta, Ga called The Drunken Unicorn.

Little did anyone know who was there that night. The bassist in the shittiest indie rock band ever, would be the “genius” hero of this tale. The band on the stage that night was a band called The Suicidal Frogs. The front man played his acoustic and sang about how “All Goth chicks want to have David Bowie’s love child.” The bassist just sat there on a stool playing his four string with a somewhat vague disposition.

Michael started out in this band with his child friend Bret Hendrix, the front man. That very night the band would break up. They went to their favorite Café and an argument arose about how no one like the music they were playing except, of course for Bret. Michael would storm out and find a place to get drunk and crash. He didn’t know the place or anyone there, but as fate would have it the random apartment belonged to Steven Fields, a local musician that everyone thought would have potential.

Michael says. “When I met Steven, it just kind of clicked. We had the same influences, and wanted the same things out of life. I was living with Bret at the time, but when we had the falling out, I had nowhere to go, so started living with Steven. I was sleeping on his couch. We just started playing music, and the writing came pretty naturally.

Michael and Steven recruited drummer David Hall to complete the lineup and soon there after started playing gigs under the name, The Land of the Fire. The Land of the Fire became a talked about band of the southern indie rock scene. The music began to progress into something different, a kind of mix between The Moldy Peaches and Radiohead.

They played a show at small club just outside of Atlanta on March 27, 1999. This performance was attended by a young new indie record exec. named Paul Leland. He signed the band immediately, and they began recording the next week. The album would become Lackluster Pyromaniacs.

The buzz about the Land of the Fire quickly spread and the band went on a small tour of the U.S. with The Naked Sumos and The Lucky Ones. This tour would prove to be a terrible experience for the band, and they would stop touring for 2 years.

“We just didn’t get along with the audiences.” Michael says. “The other two bands on the tour were very loud and rock bands that would get the crowds amped and then we would come out there and they would hate us because they couldn’t mosh to the music. They would throw shit at us. You remember in the Blues Brothers, in the bar. That’s what it was like. It pissed us off and we said ‘fuck it’. We don’t need this shit.”

The Land of the Fire would play only local shows in Atlanta from then on. They recorded two more albums including: The Randomness of Orange and Songs for the Depressed.

After one show in 2002 Michael would meet a woman named Margaret James. She was a school teacher who had just come out with her friends to the bar that night. “She had never heard of us,” Michael says. “And I liked the idea of someone who would go and have a good time and never heard of me. Most of the girls I would meet at the bars would be really gross groupies. I didn’t want to touch that.”

Michael and Margie started dating and Michael would pop the question after only 3 weeks. Margie accepted and the couple were married in Margie’s parents backyard on June 8, 2002.

The Land of the Fire would separate soon there after to pursue solo projects. Michael decided to spend his time with his family, and leave the music behind him. “I had decided that that was good time in my life, but I was happy to see it go.” Michael admitted, “ I got Margie pregnant pretty soon after the land disbanded. And I wanted to have a family.”

But soon there Michael would feel the music again. He would start to write his first solo album and it would prove to be his reawakening to what made him truly happy. He would produce the album Art in November of 2003, and it would be released to critical acclaim and would launch his legion of fans. Michael toured to promote the album and found the tour much nicer than his first experience on the road.

Now two years later he has released his second album and it’s already out sold all of the Land of the Fire’s albums combined. He is spending time with his family now before his U.S. tour next month.
